Read that story here in Luke 16:19-3.  

The Good News is that no one has to go to Hell--if he chooses not to in this life. We get to choose in this life where we will spend eternity. If we choose to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, accepting that He died for us on the cross to pay for our sins, then we can be saved and go to Heaven when we die. Accepting Jesus means receiving Him into your heart by a simple prayer asking Him to come in, and acknowledging that He is the Savior and you are a sinner (someone who has erred or strayed from God).

When we die, we will stand before God and He already knows if we chose Him and invited Jesus into our hearts to be our Lord and Savior. Only on this basis can we be saved and enter Heaven. We cannot get to Heaven by what we do, but only by receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior.
