This showed that the unborn John recognized that he was in the presence of the Christ. It was probably a reassurance to both Mary and Elizabeth that this was indeed the son of God. Since they were cousins, John and Jesus probably played together as children. However, John never doubted who Jesus was. He even told Jesus that he must decrease so that Jesus could increase. John never doubted his role as the messenger to pave the way for the Son of God who was promised so many years before.

It showed Elizabeth that the fruit of Mary's womb was indeed her master and savior, the Messiah. Even the baby John reponded to the revealed Christ. BEcause Jesus is never recoznized, he is always revealed.

It brought duel confirmation to these women. 1st to Elizabeth concerning what God declared thru the angel in Luke 1:15-17. More importantly to Mary and what the angel spoke to her in Luke 1:29-33. Can you imagine being a young teen and pregnant without knowing a man? What fear. But God is His great loved displayed the power of His Holy Spirit to both ladies in the midst of these confirmations.

It's not important. Babies in the womb often kick and move about.
