Who guarded Jesus tomb?

A group of Roman guards were assigned by Pilate to watch the tomb where Jesus had been laid. They watched it diligently, taking turns to sleep so that there were always several guards or soldiers watching the tomb at any time. (They were extra diligent in this matter for fear someone would steal Jesus’s body—particularly since He had prophesied that He would rise from the dead).

Who guarded Jesus’s tomb?
Nowhere in gospels it says for sure it was roman soldiers. On contrary when Pilates was asked to place guard at tomb he answers that they had their own guards go and do so. Later after resurrection it says priest gave money to guards and made them says that disciples have stolen the body when they were asleep. Had it been roman soldiers it could have men only one thing for them punishment by death for failure to carry on their simple assignment. For temple guards though it would mean nothing.
