"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)
jesus was doing exactly the mission upon which he was sent, eventhough somehow, somewhere it involved incite for his death, but as a person he had no intentions of inciting his death but to fulfill the Father-sent Mission as written in scripture.

Why did JesusĀ“ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

I think He bore all of these pianfull physical and emotional attacks for He also wanted to make us be ready for the physical and emotional attacks no matter how harsh they can mean to be.

How sad to talk obout but happy for He did this to free me from sin,he knew His time would come that He would leave the earth and what they did to him is to give us the glimse of salvation and to make us press on the more, even under a lot of rebelion.

Jesus did not come into this world as an adult. The Father send Him as a new born and grew to adult hood so that He may experience the full aspect of human growth. The pain, joy and emotions of being a human.Spiritual seperation would not have exposed Jesus to human feelings.

Jesus was sent by the Father to do the Father's work-fulfill the scripture.

Jesus being sinless obeyed the Father and carried out the Father's assignments and achieved it at all cost.

Truly He did not incite His own death but by obedience it may seem so.

Jesus was just following what was predicted.  He was doing what he had come down to earth for, to save us, to be our Savior.

i dont think that HE incited his death, HE knew that HE was going to die and the way that HE would die. JESUS asked HIS FATHER if there was any way for HIM not to drink of the cup that was going to be given to HIM. JESUS had a job to do and HE obeyed HIS FATHER.
