Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?
Because we would not understand the meaning. We didn't when Adam and Eve where seperated from God in the garden of Eden.

Because of significant physical torture, emotion at distress over 16hour, the and suffering of being beaten, rejected and ridicused, sacrifice his life for us, because of all the evils of mankind, his opponents attacked him for having unsovary characters such as tax collector and sinner amont his disciple, he cries out at a moment in time when he is not just physically punished, but spiritually speparated from God. The sacrifice of his life include physical and emotional pain.

Sin has not only brought separtion from God, but also pain, suffering and the curse of death...Jesus Christ dealt with all of the implications of sin upon humanity, he trully paid it all in full in all areas that sin has affected humanity and our relationship with God the Father...Jesus trully paid for ous sins entirely and atoned for us by taking our place and what we deserve...Thank you Jesus for suffering and loving us so much to endure in all of the aspects and implications of sin!  You are worthy!  The only Worthy Lamb of God to be seated on the throne and are able to open the scroll!

Because Jesus wanted us to know that when we sin it can be Physical & emotional painful for us, so He wanted us to see in our spiritual mind as we read His word and understand the physical hurt we can go through. Jesus doesn't want us to be seprate spiritural for God, because of our sins.  Lord I thank you for taking my place for me, so that i may have the rights to the tree of life. Amen

l think physical and emotional pain Jesus experienced was to let sinners understand the consequences of sin for says Paul the wages of sin is death. If we think about the pain He went through at the cross and in garden of Gethsemane,we see our sinfulness and the need for Christ to cleanse us and make us free.

"Was Jesus trying to incite his death (eg. temple cleansing, accusation of leaders?)

Jesus did not encourage his death in tample cleansing, accusation of leaders, but the zeal of doing his master work, the tample was build purposely for worshiping his master, but the tune it to be bussiness place. Jesus pridict his death from that time, He began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders chief priest and scribes. Jesus die on the cross to pay for our sins, he did not unlawful behaviour, even though they found no cause for a sentence of death, the asked pilate to have him killed. for the law of the spirit of life christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death for God has done what the law, weakened by the flash could not do. Jesus faithful his master work.
