Why do you think the priests, scribes, elders did not answer Jesus? The scribes, the priests and elders did not answer Jesus because they reasoned this: "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will say, 'Why didn't you believe him?' But if we say, 'From men,' all the people will stone us, for they are persuaded that John was a prophet."

How does Jesus link intimacy to him with obedience to him?" a "New" commandment? I would think that once you are being intimate with him which means that you love Jesus then you will want to obey him with all that you can.
