What does Jesus mean that "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted"?

Jesus means that we should not think highly of ourselves but be humble for God hates the proud ones who think of themselves always.

Jesus answers that to be saved, it is not enough for the person to know the Lord, rather the Lord needs to know the person. What does this mean?

We have to confess Jesus is Lord, the Son of the Most High in front of others shamelessly. Then Jesus will confess us in front of the Father.
