3961 entries for this category: Jesus warned against those who pretend to follow God for the recognition and perks (like the greetings and a good seat in church). Although these people are recognized as being holy, God sees their hearts and knows that they are hurting the vulnerable members of society (like the widows mentioned by Jesus) to maintain their lies and high-standing. These people will always be among us. The unfortunate part is that some of these people honestly believe themselves to be doing God's Will. They refuse to see the hatred and prejudice fueling the actions that they claim are in Jesus' name. Love is the greatest gift and the reason that we were not completely destroyed when God sent His flood. If we want to be more like God in character, we have to reflect His love. If we value each other, show God's love for each other and treat each other with dignity, we won't have to die to see heaven - it would be here. Loving God isn't enough alone. Loving God and hating your family/community, is giving God empty shows of worship because you've made yourself unable to follow His Will. Our God is a compassionate God and a loving God and demands that we treat each other with that love. If love was not important - it wouldn't be a commandment and, also, cities like Sodom and Gomorrah would not have been destroyed for having and yet not helping the poor or needy (Ezekiel 16:48-50).
What actions of the scribes did Jesus warn against? Do we have people who act like this now? ![]()

Why does Jesus place commandments to actively love above commandments to refrain from evil (thou shall notâ€Â¦)? Note: Jesus answered with two quotations from the Jewish law about loving God (Deuteronomy 6:4), and about loving neighbors (Leviticus 19:18). ![]()
