If you "lose" your life by putting the needs of others first, by showing compassion for others and living Christ's love and message of the gospels, you will find real life. Jesus felt love for this rich man, and guided him to focus on treasures in heaven instead of treasures on earth. What is heavenly treasure? Heavenly treasure is having eternal life. It is something that if we just got one taste of it for 1 second, we would yearn for it during the rest of our earthly lives.
