Jesus was born of a virgin Mary, her husband Joseph, in a manger in Bethleham. He grew up in Nazareth, learning and working the trade of carpenter. At 30 years of age, he started his public ministry, after being tested by the devil in the dessert for 40 days. He asked some to be his disciples and they followed him. He did many miracles, healing the blind, bringing a few people back to life, healing the sick, turning water into wine, walking on water, calming storms, feeding thousands from a loaf and fish, forgiving people of sins. He claimed that he is Son of Man and Son of God, came to proclaim the Kingdom of God, set captives free, forgive sins, die for his people, heal the broken, reveal God the Father, defeat the devil, teach the people. He challenged the religiousity of the Jewish leaders of the day, declaring them hypocrites. The Jewish leaders plotted to kill him because he was gaining more followers and they didn't want to lose their position of power. They bribed one of Jesus' disciples to betray him, brought him to a false trial by night and condemned him to death on the cross by the Romans. At the age of 33, Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the temple was torn from ceiling to floor, there was a few hours of total darkness. He was buried in a tombstone, watched over by Roman guards. On the third day, he rose to life, seen by Mary, his disciples, seen by thousands, ate with them, taught them, 40 days later rose to heaven. His disciples, convinced of his claim to be God, followed his instructions to sit and wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them and fill them with power and strength to proclaim the Good News to all the world. When the Holy Spirit came, it filled them with words of power and enabled them to spread the Good News wherever they went. By: Kim Tran Category: Brief Life Summaries |
