Why is giving in secret more to be commended that giving where people can see it?

Because when giving publicly you want people to notice you and praise you which is also like showing off which does not please the Lord. Giving in secret is from your heart no people know it except God the Almighty.

What makes it so difficult to love our enemies? Bonus Question: What happens when we love our enemies?

It is hard to love our enemies because the enemies usually hurt and harm us; doing thing that's not good to us. When we love them and do good to them they might think we are crazy but in time they may feel ashamed for even though they do bad to us still we do good to them and love them.

Why did Jesus instruct his followers to react passively when attacked?

Jesus instructed His followers to react passively when attacked because it is written: God says:"...Vengeance is Mine, I'll repay."(Romans 12:19) To react passively when attacked also show the oppress that we're godly and like Him--Jesus.
