Why do you think the priests, scribes, elders did not answer Jesus? The priests, scribes, elders did not answer Jesus because they didnot believe what John the bapthist was, if they said from heaven it was not right to them and if they said from men the people would stone them so they just said they didn't know. Jesus knew what they were thinking.
