Why does Jesus tell the growing crowd that one must be willing to renounce everything, including one`s own life, to be Jesus` follower?

I believe it is a matter of black and white and not degrees of grey. More specifically, if you are a follower of JESUS, you have to be willing to put him first above all things. The problem here is life and society tends to beat us up and we often lose our focus on what's most important. Being able to be able to keep things in perspective is critical, which is why we need to keep our focus on loving the LORD with all our heart, mind and soul. Certainly, a great starting point and if we can stay focused on that everything else will fall into place.

Jesus is saying to love him above everything and everyone else, if you can do this then you can enter the Kingdom. You should be willing to give up everything.

To be a follower of Christ you have to give him all we have to surrender to his will and his ways Jesus has the perfect plan for us but we must be humbled and submit our lives to his care.
