How does the host respond when people reject his dinner invitation in order to pursue their possessions and relationships? When the host, wanting to be the big man of importance, was rejected he was hurt and embarassed. It wasn't that he was wanting to provide a feast, he was wanting to put on a show. Then to show his rejectors, he invited the poor, sick, and lame and still couldn't fill his house. Not only will God reject his false pretense of kindness, people can also see that he is not sincere. All too often he that hath abundance dies in lonliness and self pity.

What does Jesus mean that "Everyone who exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted"? Jesus meant that the humble would be noticed by God, but the proud would not.
