Why does Jesus describe to his disciples how disobedient, ignorant and lazy servants are punished by their master, and how obedient, alert and active servants are given greater authority?

Our Heavenly Father may not be here in human bodily form but he is with us always and he sees and hears everything we do and say. We will not be rewarded eternal life if we do not obey the commandments of God. Those that are obedient are given the authority to teach and show others the way of the Lord.

Why does Jesus describe to his disciples how disobedient, ignorant and lazy servants are punished by their master, and how obedient, alert and active servants are given greater authority?

He is telling them to be prepared and be ready because he can return at any time. He wants them to be faithful and do what is right always. He will reward those who are doing right if they know to do right, he will punish those who know right and are doing wrong, but if someone doesn't know any better and has done good they will also be rewarded.
