What point is Jesus making when He states "eternal life" is knowing the Father and Jesus Christ? I believe JESUS is commenting on the fact that he was brought into the world to save us from sin so we could have eternal life, that is if we invite him into our hearts and follow his teachings which all originate from the FATHER. Inviting JESUS is equivilent to inviting the FATHER which means eternal life for all who seek or welcome it.

How can we experience the peace Jesus promised when we are in difficult circumstances? Jesus Himself said in the Bible Peace I give unto you. He wasn't speaking of peace from the world. By praying to Him and reading Bible passages that speak about Jesus' teaching on faith. Ang this quality faith builds upon peace.
