Why did Jesus say, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and announce the Kingdom of God"?

the dead in spirit are the only dead to god. so if your alive to god you are of him their for you are part of the kingdom and you should be looking for more survivors to wake up.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

I love how the community of Jews lived close together and because they believed the same things they were able to work together. The women were responsible for cooking, washing clothes duties of the home, feeding the animals. Care of the children. Because they were only allowed freedom of gov't and traditions in the Jewish court. The govt still had a say re: death penalty, overseeing their lives. This is not true freedom. Still being bound by the laws of a different religious practice and doctrine, did not consider the moral consequences of their decisions. The Pharisees known for strict practice of laws and traditions, differed from the Sadducees, who were wealthy, conservatives reject tradition. The Sadducees agreed with the Roman political and religious views.

Why did Jesus say, "Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and announce the Kingdom of God"?

I believe Jesus was stating that to live and follow God's Word we would need to give up all worldly things and to do God's Will before anything else.
