How can one find spiritual blessing by going through mourning, suffering, hunger or poverty?
Through pain and suffering we learn that we are absolutely dependent on Christ/God, for every need. When we have wealth, we tend to distance ourselves from God, feeling we are self relint, which is a falesy.

How can one find spiritual blessing by going through mourning, suffering, hunger or poverty?
When one has to live through a period of poverty and they have to do without so much, they may believe they are suffering to the point they can bear no more.  Even though we may be suffering and for what ever reason we are in mourning, we think life can get no worse.  It can, but with faith in God and believing in his word, he will give us the strength and nourishment for our soul to rise up and go on.  Once we are blessed with good fortune, remembering our suffering makes us appreciate what we have.  As Jehova said many times as the Isralites were going to cross over the Jordan, remember you were once surpressed in Egypt.

The Book of John

1:1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John began his gospel with five verses of profound theology. His intentions were clear -- to establish a theological foundation upon the concept of the eternal God. Greek philosophers had already developed a concept called "the Idea." Philo, a Jewish philosopher from Alexandria, identified this concept as the Word (the Logos ). This did not mean word as we understand it, a group of letters written on a piece of paper. Rather, it was understood as the transcendent power or reason behind all that was seen and known. By using this Greek terminology, John tapped into the universal nature of this concept. He then went a step further, to infuse the concept of the Word with the idea of the eternal God.
