They were angry because JESUS used the story to draw a parallel between the characters and the chief priests and scribes. They certainly did not like the inference nor did they appreciate the light that was being casted on them even though it was appropriate. Why were the chief priests and scribes angry, what was it that Jesus said?

What things are Gods? "Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar`s, and to God the things that are God`s." The entire universe was created by and belongs to God. He created man in his own image and man's soul belong to God. Caesar may have taken or conquered others to take their land and those that fear him rather than God would be under his control. Caesar may also take claim to monetary things. But in God's kingdom, he will provide what we need to survive.
