'How could such a healthy woman be struck down so young?' 'Where is God in all of this?' 'Why me?' There are many reasons given from Christian perspectives for the existence of suffering. Intellectual answers, no matter how reasonable or logical, may not bring relief to some in the midst of the suffering. Comfort, emotional care, and being present with the person may bring more relief. However, to find comfort in God and his love, it is important to have seriously struggled with this problem and its proposed solutions before our bodies and feelings are screaming at us in pain. We need to think this issue through, and decide to believe that the God of the Bible is loving and powerful, in spite of the existence of suffering. Then we will be better able to cling to him in the midst of our own suffering. It will then be easier to accept in faith the comfort and endurance he promises. Having dealt with the issue ourselves, we will be better prepared to help others reason through this problem and find God's comfort in their time of need. Having seen God work in our own pain and suffering, we will be more able to bring his comfort to those who need it. Jesus himself had said that in our pain and sorrow, we will discover or rediscover him (if you already know him). He want us to suffer with him in his mystical body, though selfish as it may sound. Its God way of making us realise our sins and reexamine ourselves. No,Jesus was not trying to incite his death. He knew before his death and ressurrection that the world today will be choatic, full of greed, lust, corruption and scams, etc. He was saddened to know of such scandalous world we live in today. He showed he was human, the Son of God turned human.
Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God? ![]()
