Why did Jesus clear the temple in such a dramatic manner? Why did not he try to accomplish the same thing more diplomatically?

Jesus did that because He wants us to know that the church is a sacred place where we pray intimately to God and the place we worshipped, praise and give thanks. Jesus didn't want anything like those people who sell goods and other things in the place of worship, He became angry and insist that the chuch is holy and sacred.

Why did Jesus choose to make His entry to Jerusalem in a humble manner, riding a donkey?

Jesus wanted to demonstrate humility to the people. If He had come in on a carriage, with trumpets blaring, an entourage and crown on His head, it would be difficult to teach and show the people about humility, kindness and oneness with the poor and masses.

What did you learn about Jesus` background that stands out or surprises you?

People circumtances during the time of Jesus and of the present times did not change much. Although new technology and level of society separates the past from the present the aspiration of people were / are still the same. If Jesus was not born 2000 years ago and is born today, HE will still be crucified.
