Galilee at that moment was a place of darkness. There were no truth but evi thoughts and lies. The people there are living in a sinful life. However, the presence of Jesus actually brought hope to the lost and salvation to the poor. Jesus taught them the way and truth of life. He taught them things that pleases the God and things that God despised. Therefore, Jesus walked them into the right track with God for those who were trapped in the darkness just like a light in the dark. Why was it important for Jesus to go through a time of temptation? To test His resolve and strength in overcoming temptations even in the face of difficulties. Jesus did not need a Satan do prove to Himself that He is a powerful being and truly capable of doing these things (like turning rocks into bread).
