Why did Herod try to kill Jesus? Herod felt that his position as the King of Jerusalem was threatened. The wise men mentioned that Jesus was born and He is the King of Jews. This really makes Herod angry and He wanted to destroy Jesus out of his own selfishness.

Why was all of Jerusalem troubled about the birth of Jesus? Jerusalem was under King Herod at that time. The Jews are in control of Israel. When the wise men came and mentioned that a child being the "King of Jews" makes them troubled. In another words, someone greater and more powerful will rule all of them. This makes all of Jerusalem being threatened.
