How did John`s testimony prepare people to receive Jesus and His message? Because John denied that he is the Messiah, therefore, people assume that the Messiah is coming, if it is not John the Baptist. John also baptized with water.

Why was sending Jesus to live on earth such an effective way for God to tell people about Himself? Jesus living on earth was effective because He was a man and thus people could identify with Him. He also embodied and taught in the flesh compassion, love, mercy, strength,etc. These virtues become more believable when they are shown by a living example like Jesus. It also makes it easier to listen to the Word when it is coming from a man than from a "supernatural" being. Thus, all combined, it comes out an effective way of getting the people to know about God.
