Why do you think the priests, scribes, elders did not answer Jesus?

because they asked Jesus according man thinking. on while Jesus asked them according to god.

the first they did not careful thinking before asking. when Jesus replied they check their answers and found out that they got the answer in mind by them self already. that's why they have no answer.

Because they probably did not know the answer themselves. They kept looking for a loophole in Jesus' ministry using all the tools in their arsenal, the archaic and rigid laws, etc. and in using their own warped logic, they found that they did not really know the answer even if they pretended to.

Because actually they did not know what is right and what is wrong, what is from god and what is from men. Because they afriad god and either man.

They were confusing to Jesus' question, the question quoted their mind with no answer.

Because their mind is for man and nor from god. They though that they were clever then they were not.

Final because they understood the authority of Jesus got "From God".
