What was there about Jesus` message caused so many of His disciples to turn away?

They refused to believe Jesus that he was the Son of living God. Jesus had also told them that they could not come to him except through his father's will.

How does one, in our current day eat the flesh of Jesus and drink His blood?

Flesh and blood is calling Holy Communion who belives Jesus is the bread of life. who belives Jesus is in me that is enternal life.The bread which Jesus will give for the life of the world is my fleshif the word of God will give drinks you never get thristy means you wount l go back to do sin.
