Why did John introduce Jesus as "the Lamb of God"?

In the days before Jesus, people sacrificed lambs or sheeps to God so as to wipe away off their sins. Jesus came to this world to sacrifice his own life so as to save others from their sins. He offered himself as a lamb for the sins of others. Therefore he was introduced as a lamb of God by John.

How did John`s testimony prepare people to receive Jesus and His message?

Firstly John prooved to others that he was not Christ. In his testimony he prooved to others that there is someone yet to come, who is called Christ, how great he is. Though others thought that John was a great person, John told the people that the one to come is so great that john himself is not worthy to loosen the sandal strap. These things made others to prepare for the coming of this great man, Jesus.
