What was Mary feeling right before Jesus´ birth? Note: She is described here as an unwed pregnant woman, who was forced to travel away from her family, only to deliver her baby in a barn?

Mary was deeply troubled at first and did not know what the angel ment. She wondered how she could be be pregnant and give birth when she was a virgin. Later on the angel comforted her saying that there was no need to be afraid because God has been gracious to her, she will give birth to a Son of the God Most High and he will make him a king just like his ancestor David.

Why is this old man Simeon so excited to meet this baby Jesus?

Simeon was a god fearing man who was filled with the Holy Spirit. He wanted Israel to be saved, and he knew only Jesus could do that. He was also assured by the Holy Spirit that he would not die before he had seen the Lord's promised Messiah. This could be the reason he was excited.
