Does Jesus believe lowly people are valuable? How valuable?

Yes indeed He doesnt look on our stability of our lives, He never had to choose the rich from poor,yet the first disciples whom He chose were ordinary people, that these disciples served God and were used as instruments to evangelize the Word of God. He never wanted anyone of us be separated from Him, as the story in the Holy Bible, when His one sheep was separated from his hundreds of sheeps, He looked for it and found it, thats how He value His people and belongings.

Define "Compassion"?

With the works and mercies done by Jesus Christ to people in need, compassion has something to do with helping people whom you dont know who are in need of spiritual and emotional support, and helping them ease the pain if not totally getting away from the suffering they encounter,as such giving sympathy/or putting oneself to other's feeling.
