Jesus defined members of his family as: Anyone (person) who so ever is doing the will of his father, GOD, obeying his commandments are his mother, brother and sister. Yes, this also includes me, provided if am doing the will of his father.

Why did Jesus´ penalty for "sin" need to include physical and emotional pain - why not just spiritual separation from God?

Jesus penalty for "sin" heed to include physical and emotional pain, because HE suffered outside the gate for the remission of our sins, so that our spiritual life will not be sepertated from THE ALMIGHTY GOD, as HE suffered for us mankind.
