Why did Jesus instruct his followers to react passively when attacked?

Because the Law of Love calls us to forgiveness and if we demand an eye for an eye, that means that we want to return the evil done to us with an equal one ''but there might be an escalation to even greater evil''. You don`t let the other one drag you into sin. Hopefully your - i`d call it firmness rather than passivity - will shake him her to awareness. The Q here is how it fits with the defense of righteous defense. Can anyone explain? thanks :'' Is it defending the weaker ones taking responsibility for them vs being unforgiving toward the evil committed toward the `I`?

Why is it evil to use oaths?

We are calling the name of the Lord in vain if we swear by Him or His City or what is his inferior but yet His creation - the footstool. I understand that we would put ousrelves in a position of superiority as well as how can i say it betting our alliance to Him. Promise to do this implying if You God do that otherwise...we would turn to the devil. Also it is our responsibility when we commit our intentions on a certain matter. We are called to use responsibly our free will in dealing with our fellow human beings etc etc. abiding by His Commandments.

Why is it Jesus speaks so strongly against divorce and remarriage?

Beacuse those words came to mind be your yes a yes and your no a no. Marriage the Alliance between God and man they both need to rest on a firm meditated seriously taken decison. It needs to rest on that and not on the shaky seas of whimsical desires. Potentially, and the sin of promiscuity and sexual infidelity is a very grave one, those desires, if and i say if not controlled, are the ones that make us more liable to lose the way and go astray coming short of the pact. Faithfulness to that and to the Commandments - not coveting what`s not yours etc etc all resting on faithfulness to the Lord - they how can i say feed each other strenghetn each other by strenghtening ours conscious and resposnible commitment.
