 | Snatching sheep, Lazarus, Salvation and children of Light |
1''Why would someone or something try to snatch sheep out of Jesus` hand?
Who would? the devil. Why? out of jelousy and desire to increase his kingdom increasing his `treasure` of stolen possed souls that he allures with misleading voice leading them to that wie path that leads to falling into the precipice of eternal damnation. But God`s helping hand can always save us provided we feel the need for him and call out for His help. However deep the precipice, He will always hear us and reach us.
2''THE RAISING OF LAZARUS. Why does he wait to go? He loves the whole family and is prepared to face the stoning risking his own death for him and them as the sisters love their brother. He says that that sickness is not to death so he is certain that he will be saved. The sisters don`t know though. Or better Mary does ''she waits in the house''. So it might seem an unneccesary even uncharitable delay. He says that it is all for the glory of the Lord. So what lesson is he teaching? Mary, Martha and Lazarus trust him and have Faith. Does he want to show people through them the power of true Faith? that can wait in full confidence even in the midst of the darkest grief?
My take. Which leads again to the question on why he weeps before raising Lazarus bringing him back to life. Here the reference to the anointing from Mary makes me think that probably he is thinking of his own death. Let`s not forget his humanity: in that family household - any chance that of the two sisters the dearest is called Mary like his mother the one who sits at his feet and treasures the words like Mary the Mother did?- he realises how much he will miss the people dear to him. Yet he will drink the cup and add that emotional suffering to the physical ones. Sadness for the physical loss but the true life he is giving Lazarus, and that is why he is waiting for him to die the physical death, is the eternal life. What should really worry us and what give us strenght and hope? Lazarus soul had reached the Father so Jesus is sad at the thought of separating him for the Heavenly Father. Weeping as he is probably torn. thinking of his own death, between the joy and nostalgia of the Father, who he wants to reach, and the sadness for leaving his earthly friends. But - this is where the greatest comfort comes - we shall all be in Heaven together. Provided we understand the Value of true Life and lead our lives so as to reach, bearing our crosses, the yearned for Haven. Martha hasn`t fully understood and dashes to ask for earthly life to be given back. Jesus tells them about his own resurrection awaking from sleep - walking in the darkness of ignorance ignorance of the Commandments that might make us stumble in the pitfalls of sin - referring to Lazarus who too will resurrect. It is a promise as they are not there. Then - specific reference to dubious Thomas - he says come with me and you shall see that what i promised is fullfilled. Fullfilled with the greatest miracle - resurrection in Spirit from physical death. This is the glory - triumph of the Lord over physical death.-and waiting he creates awe and eager excpectaion leading to the place many so that they all can see and have the opportunity to believe ''I don`t ask You this favour `cause I doubt that You have the power to grant it Father he says'' Nothing we should fear but the death of the soul. When this is sick we should be in real grief and ask for the Lord`s help. It`s the resurrection from spiritual death coming out from the tomb of ignorance to the full and glorious Light of the Lord. We must have Faith and wait confidently in darkness like during the three days before his resurrection Mary and the disciples did without letting grief have a grip on them us and make them us fall in the greatest pit: lack of belief.
3''Who are the children of God who are scattered abroad? Anyone who understands the value of his dying for us all. That he is the Son of God can to atone us from our sins with his own death so that the Law can be fullfilled and confirmed - and thus the Alliance - with the seal of Love that in its utter self sacrifice embraces the whole world. Provided we are willing to let Him embraces us ...Jesus dying with stretched out hands on the cross. .
4'' He says that that disciple wouldn`t really give that money to the poor. This is only part of the reasons though as Jesus points at that incidentally - the betrayal of a kiss a faked sesne of friendship - a betraying touch. There is more. Mary seems to know more than the disciples. She knows that he will die and that he will face the cross for the atonment of everyone`s sins including hers. So she shows her humble devoted gratitude. The gestures cannot help but make one think of the washing of the feet which as a sign of willingness to humbly serve is performed by those who are higher to those who are hierachically lower. So Christ the going to be King is raising the ex prostitute through her own Loving gestures ''agape - a different spiritual and yet also physical touch different from what she was used to `give`'', there for the disciples to watch and treasure having in mind the poor that are entrusted to their care. Do this to the littles of my brethern. But the annointing I feel has also a more personal value: Christ is human and knowing how dreary the suffering awaiting him is for the love of us... is it a surprise if he feels that need for human love and warmth and caring?
5'' Why did Jesus choose such a humble entrance ''riding on a donkey'' when He came into Jerusalem? It is a physical reminder and thus proving `detail` of what was written in the OT. But also it wants to signify that humbleness and meekness shall win over everything. The donkey is a symbol of a hard working obedient spirit that in its littleness can pass through that narrow gate.
6''Why are Jesus` followers called children of light? Because like Lazarus they are reborn to a new understanding. They die in the flesh because that death leads to true life the life of the Spirit. If you understand if you let the Word of God illumine the truth you can become his adoptive child by walking through that gate into new life. He is showing us the path to follow: The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit. He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there will my servant also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. We are reborn through him because we are cleansed of the past sins and we are given the possibility to preserve this state of grace if we follow in his footseps. In this way we are saved. Following the path that he himself shows us with the dazzling light of his death. A shining example. .But here we are talking about those who were coming to believe before his death and resurrection during his lifetime and ministry: what he is saying I feel is that if you do not treasure that - you are lacking the oil for your lamps. My words my actions - I am the oil - you have to take me/this Lamp in your hearts believe that I was sent by the Father NOW that I am with you: you have to understand with your hearts - the lampstands - the visible signs that are confirming what was prophesised in the OT By: Alessandra Parrini Category: My Blog |
