NO Jesus was not trying to incite his death.

The reason of His death is He wanted to corrected the wrong belief of the jewish people, and they could not accept that he is the Son of God. Other reason is to reveald to the Apostel that every word that he said to them is all true. When he said its finish, death has been defeated, after 3 days when he raise to life, that is the bigining of life forever.
