Why were the Jews so angry that Jesus claimed to exist before Abraham was born?

Because they did not have any faith in his word.

Jesus spoke the truth, and the truth hurts to people who are not truthful.

By claiming that he existed before Abraham, he was claiming to be superior to Abraham.
