What is so good about fasting? Why fast? In the bible fasting was seen as a way of disciplining the flesh by doing without food and water. It was used as a means of focusing on the things of the sipirit by denying the flesh in order to have a closer more intimate relationship with God, and was done by individuals as well as whole nations( 2 Samuel 12: 22, Judges 20: 26,and Joel 1:14) gives us a good insight into fasting. To fast was and is a way of one expressing Grief(1 Samuel 31:13), repentance(1 Samuel 7:6), humility ( Psalm 69 :10) and discipline( 2 Samuel 12: 16-23 )

Why does God appreciate prayers in secret more than public prayers? It is a time of spiritual communication between Father and Child (Creator and created). This time of intimacy between Our Heavenly Father and us should always be a personal time together. A time of stillness and prayer to Our Father in Heaven, through His only begotten Son, Christ Jesus. Its not a show piece to be displayed in public but rather a very private personal matter between God and Child.
