Why did Herod try to kill Jesus?

Herod was asked by wise men from the East "where is He who is born King of the Jews." Herod was troubled by the words of the wise men and so asked his scribes and priests about the Birth of This King that was mentioned and they confirmed his worst fears. He felt threatened, and insecure (even as an earthly king) and must have felt that his reign over the Jewish kingdom was under threat, even though Jesus was only an infant. To eliminate the risk to his reign, he ordered that all children under the age of 2 be killed, thinking that in the process that Jesus would be killed as well. HOW WRONG WAS HE!!!!

Why was all of Jerusalem troubled about the birth of Jesus?

All of Jerusalem felt troubled by the birth of Jesus for the city itself as decribed was the "city of God", the "Holy City" and the occupants of the city knew according to the scriptures that they had fallen well short of what was expected of them by God.They idolised and worship a fellow men in King Herod and were really lost sheep, for they did not heed the 10 commandments and had strayed from their God. They did not know what to expect or understand by the coming of the Messiah.It was the fear of the unkown that troubled them most.
