"…And he went on to say to the one who had invited Him, "When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return, and repayment come to you. But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous."

This is supported by the saying..." Don't let the left hand see what the right hand is doing". We should give to others without wanting thanks and praise. The lowly are those in need of our discreet help- others can repay us therefore the giving of ourselves is not pure giving, it has a receiving element. God wants us to give unconditionally and our reward, through faith and following his word will ultimately be the reward of eternal life.

 Can we ever feel compassion like Jesus did if we don't value the plight of lowly people. Everything with the Word of God is interconnected, like the intricate pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
