What was it about Jesus` answer that caused the Pharisees and Herodians to marvel?
The Pharisees expected Jesus to make a choice between allegiance to Caesar and God. His answer says that Caesar is concerned about taxes and money, so give money to Caesar. The tax money was created by Caesar, therefore give it to Him. God is concerned not with money, but our salvation. Give of yourself to God, for you belong to Him.

What was it about Jesus` answer that caused the Pharisees and Herodians to marvel?
They marvelled because they were caught up in their own nets, moreover on the same side. Herodians supported payment of tax to ceaser, but pharisees opposed it, as being against Moses` laws. They were amazed because Jesus` answer was authoritative and absolute, without reference to any lawbook. They marvelled because they lost in yet another opportunity to catch Jesus. Jesus overwhelmed them with his answer.

What was it about Jesus` answer that caused the Pharisees and Herodians to marvel?
The Pharisees and Herodians wanted to test Jesus by asking if it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, but Jesus perceived their wickedness and told them that he need not be tested, they were hypocrites. He asked them whose inscription was on the money, to which they answered Caesar`s, to which he answered Give to Caesar the things that belong to Caesar and to God the things that are God`s, and to this answer they marveled.

What was it about Jesus` answer that caused the Pharisees and Herodians to marvel?
He exposed them. All that sweet talk did not decieve him at all from the deed of their question, wich was to trap him. If he would have said NO dont pay taxes the Herodians would have reported him and they would have him executed for treason. If he would have said Yes they would have said, he`s disloyal to his Nation. They thought that it is a Yes or No question. Because they didnt expect an answer like that they were amazed.

Paying Taxes to Caesar

Then the Pharisees went and took counsel how they might entrap him in his talk. They sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are honest, and teach the way of God in truth, no matter who you teach, for you aren't partial to anyone. Tell us therefore, what do you think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, "Why do you test me, you hypocrites? Show me the tax money."
They brought to him a denarius.
He asked them, "Whose is this image and inscription?"
They said to him, "Caesar's."
Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."
When they heard it, they marveled, and left him, and went away.
