Who were Jesuss friends?

According to the New Testament Bible, Jesus said that His friends were those who kept His word, His sayings, and obeyed the things that He commanded (see the Gospel of John chapter 15). He also stated that His disciples, followers, were His friends. This includes the twelve disciples closest to Him, and those who were not included in that twelve such as Martha, Mary, Lazarus. Several women were also His friends in a sisterly way and they ministered to Him i.e. they would have helped Him with meals, sowing needs and such like. Their names were Susanna, Joanna, Mary (We see this in Luke 8:3). Those who follow Jesus are His friends—and the New Testament makes it clear that this includes those who follow Him today by obeying Him.

Who is Jesus?
1. Who is Jesus? Answers to the question of who Jesus is seem almost inexhaustive but we will attempt to answer this question, at least in part, by looking at the Bible, beginning with some claims and comments Jesus made about Himself. To narrow our category still more, let's begin just in the Gospel of John. What Jesus said of Himself in John's Gospel: ''To Nicodemus the Pharisee'' ?For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life? ''John 3:16''. ''To the Samaritan woman at the well'' ?,Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst,? ''John 4:12:14a''. ?,the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do, for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner,I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me? ''John 5:19,30''. ?,the works which the Father has given me to finish¨the very works that I do¨bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me? ''John 5:36''. ?I have come in my Father's name,? ''John 6:43a''. ?For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world,I am the bread of life. He ho comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst? ''John 6:33,35''. ?,I am the bread which came down from heaven,I am the bread of life,I am the living bread which comes down from heaven? ''John 6:41b,48,51a''. ?,My doctrine is not mine, but His who sent me? ''John 7:16'' ?For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me? ''John 6:38''. ?,I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life? ''John 8:12''. ?I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me? ''John 8:18''. ?,I am from above,? ''John 8:23''. ?,nor have I come of Myself, but He sent me? ''John 8:42b''. ?,I do not have a demon, but I honor my Father,I do not seek my own glory? ''John 8:49,50''. ?,Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM? ''John 8:58''. ?,I am the light of the world? ''John 9:5''. ?I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness? ''John 12:46''. ?I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture? ''John 10:9''. ?I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep? ''John 10:11''. ?I am the good shepherd, and I know My sheep, and am known by My own. As the Father knows me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep? ''John 10:14, 15''. ?,I lay down My life that I may take it again? ''John 10:17b''. ?I and the Father are one? ''John 10:30''. ?,I am the resurrection and the life, He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live? ''John 11:25''. ?,I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself? ''John 12:32''. ?He who believes in Me, believes not in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees Him who sent Me? ''John 12:44, 45''. ?,I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words , has that which judges him¨the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. ?For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent Me gave Me a command, what I should say and what I should speak? ''John 12:48 - 50''. ?You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am? ''John 13:13''. ?For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you? ''John 13:15''. ?I am the way, the truth and the life. No-one comes to the Father except through me? ''John 14:6''. ?,I am in the Father and the Father in Me,? ''John 14:11''. ?I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser? ''John 15:1''. ?I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father? ''John 16:28 ? prophesying of His death''. ?,the Father is with Me? ''John 16:32b''. ?,I have overcome the world? ''John 16:33b''. ?,I am not of the world? ''John 17:16b''. ?,You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth,? ''John 18:37''. Therefore, Jesus is: the Word of God ''John 1'', giver of eternal life, Savior, living water, replica and express image of the Father, truth, life, light, righteous judge, witness of God, executer of God's will, from above, bearing Father's name, I AM, oneness with the Father, teacher and Lord, the door, the good shepherd, the vine, , mediator between God and man, overcomer of the world, not of the world, king, the way to the Father. What others said of Jesus in John's Gospel: John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin, said of Jesus: ?,his was He of whom I said He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No-one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him? ''John 1:15-18''. ?,Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world? ''John 1:29''. ?And I have seen Him and testified that this is he Son of God? ''John 1:24''. The Samaritan woman says of Jesus: ?,Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet? ''John 4:19''. The Samaritans the woman spoke to said of Jesus: ?,Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world? ''John 4:42''. What Jesus said of himself in the synoptic Gospels: ?Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls? ''Matthew 11:28, 29''.

Who were Jesuss siblings?

The New Testament Bible tells us that Jesus had a brothers named James, Joses, Judas and also other siblings including sisters who are not necessarily named.

According to the Gospel of Mark in the New Testament, Jesus had both brothers and sisters :

“…is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of Hames, Joses, Judas and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?” (Mark 6:3, NKJV).

Jesus’s siblings were, in fact, half siblings. Their biological parents were Mary and Joseph. Jesus shared the same mother, Mary. And Joseph was his adopted father. But He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit as revealed in the Gospel genealogies.

Click here to see Jesus’ biography seen in the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John: http://www.jesuscentral.com/ji/life-of-jesus-ancient/biography-of-jesus-christ/jesus-Markbio.php

For more details click here: http://www.gotquestions.org/Jesus-siblings.html

A relevant verse in the Old Testament worth noting is found in Isaiah 7, verse 14:

“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, ad shall call His name Immanuel” (Isa. 7:14, NKJV).

Jesus was born of the virgin Mary. She was His mother. God was His father. Therefore his brothers and sisters were siblings by sharing the same mother as Him.

The Bible also teaches that on a spiritual level, Jesus calls all who hear Him “brothers”. (Luke 8:21).

Was Jesus married?

History and the Bible show that Jesus was never married.

There are fiction stories and films that have been fabricated to make it look as if Jesus was secretly married. These stories claim to be fiction. And Historical facts prove them to be fiction. They have no foundation in truth at all. Clearly, all documents, historical narrations, ancient scrolls and scriptures prove that Jesus lived as a single man.

There were females in His life that took care of Him – probably doing His sowing and cooking for Him from time to time. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of Luke, chapter 8, verse 3. The women “ministered to Jesus.” But He was never married. He spent much of His time alone in prayer or with His 12 disciples of with other people.

How did Jesus do miracles?

Jesus performed many miracles just by speaking the Word.

His Word had (has) the power to perform miracles. He spoke the Word (just the same as God spoke the Word in the Old Testament in the book of Genesis and spoke the world into existence).

Sometimes Jesus chose bizarre ways to do a miracle. For example, He healed one blind man by spitting in the mud to form clay which He applied to the man’s eyes. The man was healed.

According to the New Testament Bible, Jesus performed miracles from the power He received from His heavenly Father.

Throughout the Gospel of John in the New Testament, Jesus proclaimed that He could do nothing of Himself but by the will of the Father, by the power of God.

In John 14:10 of the New Testament Jesus says, “I do not speak of my own authority, of myself: but the Father that lives in me, He does the works.”

The Bible reveals that Jesus healed many people during His lifetime. History confirms this.

What is Jesus famous for?

History reveals that Jesus is famous for many things. First, He performed miracles that could not be explained or dismissed in human terms. Some of His miracles included: healing people, turning water into wine, multiplying loaves and fishes, walking on water, seeing into a person’s past and future, bringing people back from the dead and being resurrected.

Jesus is also famous for His Words or His Word as found in the Bible. His sayings were radical and often offended those who were self-righteous. Other sayings were mysterious such as, “Let he who has ears, hear.” His philosophy was often radically different than man’s religion or human philosophy. For example, He stated that to have life, one must lose one’s life.” In the Gospel of John, Jesus claimed to be “the resurrection and the life  (John 11:35, NKJV). Such sayings are extraordinary and make Him well-known.

Jesus is famous for His compassion. He healed people out of compassion. He wept over the city of Jerusalem with compassion.

Jesus is especially famous for dying on the cross for the sins of mankind and then resurrecting. Over 500 people saw Jesus in His resurrected form as recorded in many historic narrations and chronicles. Many skeptics and incredulous people also saw Jesus alive from the dead.

Paul the Apostle describes Jesus as being risen from the dead. Read that story here.

Jesus is famous for forgiving wrongdoing or sin. He is famous for having the power to forgive and the unique Son of God, and for choosing to forgive out of love for mankind. He is famous for being the way in which mankind can receive forgiveness since He died in the place of sinners (all mankind).

Jesus is also famous for being the Messiah, the one who was expected and spoken of in the Old Testament Bible, the Jewish scriptures or writings. His life and death were prophesied as were the hardships He bore for mankind.

Jesus death on the cross—for which He was famous—can be seen prophesied in Psalm 22 is one example. Here is another, found in Isaiah 53; verses 3, 4 and 5:

“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, and we hid, as it were, our faces from Him, He was despised and we did not esteem Him.

Surely He has borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted,

But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him,

And by His stripes we are healed” (NKJV).

Did Jesus have long hair?

There is no suggestion in the Bible that Jesus had long hair. He would have had the average, ordinary and acceptable length of hair since we know He looked ordinary. Jews of His ear wore their hair down to their shoulders or just above. They did not wear short hair as many men do today. Still it was not long as such. And it certainly was not long for that time, and that culture.

Pictures in art where we see a Jesus with very long hair are purely fictional and not based on the facts of the era.

Did Jesus like children?

Jesus loved children. At one time some children wanted to come to Him and the disciples (Jesus’ close followers) rebuked them and turned them away.

Jesus said this of children in the New Testament Gospel of Mark:

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God” (Mark 10:14, NKJV).

In the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said this of children:

“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kindom of heaven.

And whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives me” (Matthew 18: 3, 4, 5, NKJV).

When Jesus healed Jairus’s daughter, and brought her back to life when she was dead, He immediately asked for food for her. He loves children and cares for them deeply.

What nationality was Jesus?

According to History as well as the New and Old Testaments in the Bible, Jesus was a Jew. He was Jewish like His birth mother and adopted father. He was of Jewish stock or lineage. Jesus was actually a descendent of King David.

The Bible also tells us—as Jesus did Himself—that He was and is the Son of God. Therefore, He was and is also a citizen of Heaven.
