Anxiety: How has Jesus helped you?
I was young and popular during my high school years and then everything changed with college. I was alone and nobody took the chance to get to know me. I started being anxious thinking people dont like me because the way i look or because i had no friends. With the help of Jesus, i had the chance to finally express myself, with him i have learned that there is always a solution for every problem. That hope is always there if you believe. Since then i started a new life of hope and happiness.

Anxiety: How has Jesus helped you?
Hey, I’m Beverly. I enjoy the conversations here very much. Thank you everyone for sharing. I’m not sure whether I have anything to add but I can say that my anxiety has improved much after I learned to believe what God says is true about me. I used to get all hung up about what other people thought about me. It took considerable time but I retrained the way I think to believe that God loves me and cares for my needs. I don’t spend as much time worrying about all the crimes that could happen against me and all the accidents and diseases that could befall me. Instead, I’ve learned to pay attention to what Jesus says. When he says “he who tries to save his life shall lose it but he who looses his life for me shall save is” I think there is hidden wisdom in what he says. I spent so much of my early life trying to save myself. I tried to keep myself safe and in control at all times. But it never worked. I lived in worry and anxiety. I finally turned my thoughts toward finding ways of loving others instead of trying to protect myself. There is life, peace, happiness and many other good things at the end of this path. But, worrying never brings anything but more worrying. Does that make sense?

Jesus teaches to be anxious for nothing. I believe he says this because he believed God his father took care of all his needs. He didn’t need to worry about anything. In fact, I believe it is possible that worrying inhibits God’s ability to meet our needs. It is like telling God we do not believe he is good and wants to meet our needs. That belief prevents him from doing all he wants to do for us. Do you agree?

Anxiety: How has Jesus helped you?
I’ve experienced bunches of anxiety myself and thought I’d share what I’m learning. I’ve done some stupid things in the past that have haunted me. I’ve been ashamed and tried to runaway from them. I moved to a new area a couple of years ago to start over. I’ve feared getting into a church here and having everyone find out about my past and think I’m still that way. You know what I mean?

I’ve been reading the Bible and learning what Jesus says and it’s been like totally freeing and all. People are all about having to act like you’ve got your life all together and everything. I’ve discovered that Jesus isn’t like that at all. He told people not judge others and not to pretend we are all self-righteous and all. That’s all about pretending we are better than others and hiding our faults and stuff. That’s suffocating and hypocritical.

Jesus was called the friend of sinners because he loves sinful people. He doesn’t love based on us acting all holy like. He loves us based on who we really are. He don’t have to live up to a perfectionist standard or anything. He loves us because He is love. His love doesn’t depend on us at all. He loves because He is love.

When I realized this it like totally took the pressure off me. I don’t have to be anxious all the time about what I’ve done in the past or what people think about me. I realized that God loves me no matter what. If people will only love me if I live up to their standards, they aren’t behaving like God. It’s interesting that so many church people love so conditionally instead of how God loves. But I decided that I’m not going to judge them the way they judge others. I’m going to love them the way God loves me. This truth has really freed me from being anxious all the time. I’m going to live my life knowing that God loves my unconditionally and I’m going to start loving other people that way too. Maybe it will change the way other people love along the way too. Be free of guilt and don’t let mean-spirited people rob you from receiving God’s love for you.
