Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
A lesson learned. You must first seek the kingdom of God and then all other things will be added. This man was lost in worldly possessions and Jesus was teaching him a lesson. To sum this up Jesus was testing the young mans` faith.

Jesus is senn number of times preaching against acquiring too much posession. Can`t one be a good X`tian when he is very wealthy?

Why did Jesus tell the rich young man to go sell all his posessions before he c`d follow him?
Because its is not easy to serve both God and Treasures. And he still meant that God will open up a new chapter for the man, because Jesus might have seen it that he did not aquire the posessions in a righteous way thats why he told him about the commandments. Jesus said that one should seek ye first the Kingdom of God and every thing shall be added un to him.

Jesus was useing this man as a lesson to show us how we cling to our worldly possessions instead of reaching for God.

Jesus knew what is in the heart of a man, He knew that if he did not tell this man at that time to sell those materials thing he occupied himself with, when persecution start he will revert immediately. And not only that, Jesus wanted us to show us an example which he wanted us to followed, if one takes a looks at this man carefully, imaging who came to Jesus and ask what he would do to inherit the kingdom of God, now Jesus is telling him what to do to get that kingdom right, but because of earthly possession which he will died and leave, he refused to accept Jesus Christ. There is enough lessons to learn from here! This man came to tempted Jesus not knowing who Jesus is, ''the all knowing, the Master of the universe, the I am that Iam, the Prince of Peace, THE EVERLASTING FATHR'' the same thing is happening around us today. If we follow Jesus we have everything. He wanted to see if He really trusted Him. Worldly things are staying in this world and we should not hold on to them but share with the needy.

Hi everyone, This man had to sell all had to follow Jesus b`se for him saw on the inside of him when his heart was taken up on his wealth so Jesus new that if this man could only sell all he had and then bestow it to the poor then he will be able to follow him.

The Rich Young Man

Behold, one came to him and said, "Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"
He said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but one, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
He said to him, "Which ones?"
Jesus said, "'You shall not murder.' 'You shall not commit adultery.' 'You shall not steal.' 'You shall not offer false testimony.' 'Honor your father and mother.' And, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
The young man said to him, "All these things I have observed from my youth. What do I still lack?"
Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sad, for he was one who had great possessions. Jesus said to his disciples, "Most certainly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven with difficulty. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God."
When the disciples heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?"
Looking at them, Jesus said, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Then Peter answered, "Behold, we have left everything, and followed you. What then will we have?"
Jesus said to them, "Most certainly I tell you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on the throne of his glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive one hundred times, and will inherit eternal life. But many will be last who are first; and first who are last.
