Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
Jesus told the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him because he was teaching him how to inherit eternal life. He told to the man the ten commandments. He also included selling all the man`s possessions and giving it to the poor will also make him to have eternal glory in the kingdom of God.

Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
As a test of his faith in Jesus. By not selling all his possessions, the rich man demonstrated that, although he was basically good, he could not part with his earthly riches to follow Jesus. As his riches on earth were more important, his riches in heaven would therefore be very small.

Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
Jesus was testing the faith of the rich man to see is he is really ready to follow him and work out his own salvation and also to show us that we should seek ye first the kingdom of God and ALL other things will be added to us. On the other side Jesus said bird sleep in nest, foxes in holes, but the son of man has no where to put his head meaning the the rich who is young and energetic has to be without the riches before he can follow him.

Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
Jesus wanted to test the rich man`s faith. If he was really seeking the kingdom of God and understood what it stands for then giving up worldly things would be easy. But here is a man who was caught up.....trapped in his worldly achievements. .how do you tell a man with everything that there is treasure waiting for him in heaven when he has all the treasure he need right here on earth? Why should he give it up ? Why should he even bother?Following Jesus would mean being humble and being friends with the lowly. the sick and the poor. Did he really want to do that? He had friends in high places. His heart was heavy and sad because he didn`t understand what Jesus was saying to him.Jesus was merely asking him whether he would give up his life for God just as he did. I think that is what he meant when he said sell all you have and follow me.Jesus knew he was on his way to God and if this man had followed him he too would be on his way to heaven ... But because of his lack of faith he did not want to give up what he already posessed for something he that he had not seen. How easy is it to give up what we have for the promise of better things to come.....especially if it something that we have never seen before. That is the cleverness of Jesus` teaching. He is not telling us to go sell all we have and stay without....what he is saying to us is that if we are seeking the kindom of God we should not put all our focus on things of this world. They are only there to make our journey through life comfortable but we should not let them rule our lives..he will provide all these things if we only let him and we can only let him if we are following in his path.If we are blessed with plenty we should share with others because we know that when we move on there is alot in store for us. That is what Jesus is saying to us. Don`t just go about your life seeking weath....we can`t spend all our life doing that because we will leave them here anyway when we move on to the great beyond and also if all our time is spent gatheing wealth how can we build a frienship with God and be a witness for him if we are too busy in our own materialistic world? So why not look to the future....to God`s Kingdom where there will be treasure in abundance!!!! By doing God`s will here on earth we are doing a job for christ and he is putting our salary in a heavenly bank so we can enjoy it upon retirement!!! Why not save for the future...isn`t it worth it???

Jesus the rich and his possessions
if we put God first in our life we will be better off in seving him we put to many things before him that is why we have all these promblems in our lives. we serve things, and money, and people but we find it hard to give up every thing for him. Sad isn`t it.

Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
The young apparently thought that he did everything he could have possibly done, to enter into the kingdom of heaven. So Jesus told him that to be perfect, he must sell all his possessions, give to the poor and follow him. If he had done this, I guess he would have proven that the kingdom of Heaven is worth more than all the riches in the world.

Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
because Jesus wanted all of us to understand that it was not easy to get into the Kingdom of God-that it was something requiring great sacrifice and dedication to be achieved. Jesus also wanted us to understand that one cannot be weighed down by earthly wealth and still be seeking the Kingdom of God.

Why did Jesus tell the rich man to sell all his possessions before coming to follow Him?
Because the rich man had to be willing to turn away from everything: to put God first. You cannot serve both God and Money.

The Rich Young Man

Behold, one came to him and said, "Good teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"
He said to him, "Why do you call me good? No one is good but one, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
He said to him, "Which ones?"
Jesus said, "'You shall not murder.' 'You shall not commit adultery.' 'You shall not steal.' 'You shall not offer false testimony.' 'Honor your father and mother.' And, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
The young man said to him, "All these things I have observed from my youth. What do I still lack?"
Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me." But when the young man heard the saying, he went away sad, for he was one who had great possessions. Jesus said to his disciples, "Most certainly I say to you, a rich man will enter into the Kingdom of Heaven with difficulty. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God."
When the disciples heard it, they were exceedingly astonished, saying, "Who then can be saved?"
Looking at them, Jesus said, "With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."
Then Peter answered, "Behold, we have left everything, and followed you. What then will we have?"
Jesus said to them, "Most certainly I tell you that you who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on the throne of his glory, you also will sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. Everyone who has left houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, will receive one hundred times, and will inherit eternal life. But many will be last who are first; and first who are last.
