Did Jesus preach the ten commandments?

Jesus did preach the ten commandments. But He also elaborated on them, clarifying that they are not just outward rules to obey but mirrors of what we are like inside. In other Words, Jesus showed that even if a person could outwardly keep all the commandments, that would not save them. It was not sufficient because, according to Jesus, if a person lusts after another person, this is the same as adultery or fornication or wrongful sex. If a person is angry it’s the same as murder because murder is in the heart. Therefore, when Jesus spoke of the ten commandments, He showed that mankind needs the inner life of God in order to fulfill God’s laws. He helped mankind to see that he (or she) needs help and really needs God’s help in order to fulfill the law.

Jesus preached beyond the ten commandments to help mankind see that God looks right into the heart, not just to exterior actions.

Jesus teaching shone into men’s hearts. And His teaching on the ten commandments was particularly convicting because He showed the world that without His strength we cannot keep God’s laws.

Did Jesus know hunger or thirst?

Jesus knew physical hunger and thirst. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, chapter 4 where Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights.

Jesus also thirsted when He was on the cross. Read about it here.

When Jesus spoke to a Samaritan woman at the well, as seen in the Gospel of John chapter 4, He spoke of satisfied thirst through eternal waters. And He spoke of “having meat to eat that you don’t understand about” when His disciples asked Him if He was hungry. Read about it here.

By reading the New Testament Gospels, we know that Jesus ate and drank. Obviously, He knew thirst and hunger. In John 21, He cooked fish for His disciples.

Did Jesus practice or believe in tradition?

Jesus practiced many Jewish traditions that related to the Old Testament Bible. For example, He ate the Passover Supper.

The New Testament Bible suggests that Jesus did believe in certain traditions if they pointed to the Father, to truth. But He did not believe in all traditions. And He did not believe in tradition for tradition’s sake. On the contrary, He often rebuked the religious leaders of the day (Pharisees and Sadducees) for following vain tradition while their hearts were far from God.

He also broke some traditions at different times. For example, He was accused of plucking corn on the Sabbath day which was forbidden by law (and thus became traditional).

Why did some people call Jesus "Rabbi"?

The term or word “Rabbi” means teacher. People referred to Jesus as “Rabbi” because they saw Him as their teacher. It was a term of respect that meant teacher. Jesus taught like no one else.

Jesus taught the words that His heavenly Father gave Him to speak. He did not speak His own thoughts only but those the Father gave Him to speak. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of John, chapter 17. He taught words of life, the Word of God. Thus He was the teacher of teachers.

Sometimes the things that Jesus taught offended people because they revealed the depth of wrong thinking in their hearts. In the New Testament Gospel of John chapter 6, verse 66, some people turned back from following Him because they found His sayings hard.

Jesus often said, “Let him who has ears hear.” This spoke of the inner understanding. We can have ears but not hear what Jesus is saying.

He also taught often in parables, relating truth to the people’s way of life or tradition. Sometimes He explained the parables, such as in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew chapter 13. Other times He did not explain.

Many people consider Jesus to be the finest teacher that ever existed. His teachings can be found in the New Testament Bible. Many people still follow Jesus teachings today.

He taught words of life, the Word of God. Thus He was the teacher of teachers. Jesus taught the words that His heavenly Father gave Him to speak. He did not speak His own thoughts only but He spoke the Words the Father gave Him to speak. We see this in the New Testament Gospel of John, chapter 17.

Was Jesus a trickster doing magic?

Absolutely not. Jesus was not a trickster, and He didn't do magic.

There is nothing in the Bible to suggest Jesus was a trickster doing magic. The New Testament Bible shows that Jesus performed miracles which people could not explain. Therefore some people may think he was doing tricks. But Jesus stated His miracles were done by the power of His heavenly Father, God.

Furthermore, Jesus was (and is) truth and light. He cannot lie and does not deceive or trick people.

Did Jesus sometimes lie?

No, Jesus never lied. He was, and is, the personification of truth and does not lie. If He had lied, He could not have been sinless and His death on the cross could not have paid for our sins.

There is nothing in the New Testament Bible to suggest Jesus ever lied. On the contrary, since He obeyed His heavenly Father, we believe He did not lie. Jesus sometimes called the Pharisees and religious leaders who did not believe in Him as being liers, from the father of lies, the devil.

As God’s son, and without sin, Jesus did not lie. Jesus had no sin of His own and therefore He did not lie.

Did Jesus teach that women are inferior to men?

The New Testament Bible does not show anything to suggest Jesus thought or taught that women were inferior to men. Jesus honored women inasmuch as He listened to them, ate with them and considered many women to be His friends or followers.

Did Jesus teach that children should remain silent?

We see nothing in the New Testament Bible to suggest Jesus taught that children should remain silent. The character of love and compassion that Jesus displayed would suggest that He understood they needed to laugh, play, sing and would never have taught they should be confined to silence.

This is what we know about Jesus with regards to children:

Jesus loved children. At one time some children wanted to come to Him and the disciples (Jesus’s close followers) rebuked them and turned them away.

Jesus said this of children in the New Testament Gospel of Mark:

“Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:14, NKJV).

In the New Testament Gospel of Matthew, Jesus said this of children:

“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kindom of heaven.

And whoever receives one little child like this in My name receives me” (Matthew 18: 3, 4, 5, NKJV).

When Jesus healed Jairus’s daughter, and brought her back to life when she was dead, He immediately asked for food for her. He loves children and cares for them deeply.
