Bonus question: Why was the veil torn in two? The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two
I believe the veil ''which was a curtain'' was what symbolized separation of God. Only the chief priest could go behind the veil and then only once a year and only with a blood sacrifice.

When Jesus "breathed his last" and was pronounced dead; why did The Roman centurion glorify god?
He believed at last that Jesus is the son of God sent to save the whole world in the sense that he accepted to be crucified while innocent.

When Jesus "breathed his last" and was pronounced dead; why did The Roman centurion glorify god?

Because the Roman centurion witnessed the son of God being crucified on the cross for us all. Even Jesus used his last breath talking to God and said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" Jesus is Lord!

Bonus question: Why was the veil torn in two? "The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two"
Because Jesus completed his mission and saved us from sin and forgiven by God. When Jesus said it is finished, we are now righteous before God because of what his son did for us on the cross. Give praise and glory to God forever more. Now, I am a child of God and part of his family because of Jesus Christ. Amen!

With the veil in the temple ordinary people was not allow to enter beyond that veil, only the high priest would allow to enter because it was the holy of the holy place. When Jesus died the veil torn into two so that we could directly go to God through Jesus the Christ.

Jesus' Death

It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. The sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was torn in two. Jesus, crying with a loud voice, said, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!" Having said this, he breathed his last.
When the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, "Certainly this was a righteous man." All the multitudes that came together to see this, when they saw the things that were done, returned home beating their breasts. All his acquaintances, and the women who followed with him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.
