What was there about Jesus` message caused so many of His disciples to turn away?
Jesus said that their fathers had eaten manna in the wilderness and died. That naturally made the listeners sensitive that Jesus mentioned their ancestors, who were always to be respected. Then Jesus said that if a person eats his body and drinks his blood, he will live. That would naturally offend me to say that my ancestors ate consecrated manna from God, yet I should eat what seemed like bloody flesh and drink his salty tasting blood. They died; yet I would live by eating and drinking what seemed like a slaughter house meal, except that it is from Jesus, who people had followed and respected. That would have been a jolt. How could Jesus talk about himself being butchered. In addition, he expects us to enjoy drinking his blood and eating his flesh so we will live eternally. He must be a psycho. Plus, we must conclude that he thinks he is God, if he thinks we can live forever by having a meal on his flesh and blood. The pagans practiced eating the hearts of their defeated or eating the heart of a newly slayed beast to gain its attributes, but Jesus is a person, and he has been teaching that we should respect him. Has he gone crazy from the pressure of the temple priests? Has Jesus turned suicidal?
All of these wild ideas and sudden turn-abouts have gotten me confused and skeptical about following such a radical person.
______________
Those are some of the thoughts that would have gone through my mind.

When Jesus said to them,"The words that I speak to you are spirit and are life. But there are some of you who don't believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn't believe and who it was who would betray him. He said, "For this cause have I said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father." At this, many of his diciples went back and walked no more with him. Thank You! Heavenly Father for your son JESUS. Amen!

What was there about Jesus` message caused so many of His disciples to turn away?
Lack of faith and the unbelieving hearts caused many desciples of Christ to turn back. The desciples who turned back did not understand that Jesus was speaking enternal life to them. It seems that the devil blinded them not to see the light of God in their midst. The unbelieving spirit caused the other desciples to stumble. many of his disciples turn away because jesus was speaking in spirit and the disciples does not understand it becuase most of them havnt being baptized with the holy spirit By: george aidoo - January 19, 2008 - Public Category: Many Disciples Desert Jesus
Therefore many of his
disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying! Who
can listen to it?"
But Jesus knowing in
himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble? Then what if you would see the
Son of Man ascending to where he was before? It is the spirit who gives life.
The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and
are life. But there are
some of you who don't believe." For Jesus knew from the
beginning who they were who didn't believe, and who it was who would
betray him. He said,
"For this cause have I said to you that no one can
come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father." At this, many of his
disciples went back, and walked no more with him. Jesus said therefore to the
twelve, "You don't also want to go away, do
you?" SimonPeter answered
him, "Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.
We have come to believe
and know that you are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Jesus answered them,
"Didn't I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a
devil?" Now
he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would
betray him, being one of the twelve.
