Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God?
Because he was not a believer and was looking for any excuse to make a case against Christ. The high priests feared Jesus and the influence He was having on the general population and were seeking to destroy Him by any means that would appeal to the followers and blasphemy fit the bill.

Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God?
He really didn`t have a good reason. He didn`t believe in Jesus, he was just looking for a charge against Jesus in order to sentence him to death.

Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God?
The High Priest was a learned Jew who knew what blasphemy was. He in his faithless state did not believe that Jesus was/is the son of God and Jesus was not blaspheming rather than telling them the fact of his destiney; going to the Father ''GOD''. The high priest is more in the books of scriptures about the Messiah but he was not give the chance by his beliefs and education to recognise Jesus.

Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God?
I think the same problem was that they knew not the scriptures, or the power of it. Blasphemy was ofcourse a capital offence according to the laws and the prophets. The high priest ought to have understood Jesus` claims in greater detail, that he was the christ, but he too was blindfolded by the eagerness to convict Jesus. The high priest was both a prosecutor and a judge in this case. The high priest was accessory to the accusation itself, as Jesus remarked that- You said it. This was a case of prejudicial conviction -being guilty, even before the proof. The high priest had the powers to pronounce the Blasphemy verdict, and he obviously misused his powers, only so to cause death, no matter the level of Jesus` innocence.

Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God?
Because the high priest did not understand that Jesus was the Son of God. So when the high priest asked Jesus are you the son of the Living God. And Jesus said to him, You have said it. the high priest tore his clothes and said He has spoken blasphemy! But Thank God for his son Jesus Christ!

Why did the high priest view it as blasphemy when Jesus acknowledged that he was the Christ, the Son of God?
Before Christ are many prophets of whom they Jesus is also one of them. This is more reason His own people didn`t believe in Him. Secondly, having known the natural father of Jesus as Joseph the capenter, they believe it is a sin for human being to called himself the Son of God. Believing God has no child and nobody ever seen God before to attest to it that surely Jesus was the Son of God.

Before the Sanhedrin

Those who had taken Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together. But Peter followed him from a distance, to the court of the high priest, and entered in and sat with the officers, to see the end. Now the chief priests, the elders, and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus, that they might put him to death; and they found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came forward, and said, "This man said, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.'"
The high priest stood up, and said to him, "Have you no answer? What is this that these testify against you?" But Jesus held his peace. The high priest answered him, "I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God."
Jesus said to him, "You have said it. Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of the sky."
Then the high priest tore his clothing, saying, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy. What do you think?"
They answered, "He is worthy of death!" Then they spit in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him, saying, "Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who hit you?"
