Why do some people need signs and wonders to believe in Jesus, and others do not?
I think it would be easy to give an answer that is judgemental and self-flattering.  But in an attempt to add something to the study, I wanted to step back and say that I think that those who want signs and wonders to believe are that way for different reasons.  Primarily, I think that some people's personalities are more analytical, objective and fact based.  They may be very good hearted people but they intellectually have a difficult time accepting things that they cannot see or touch.  The concept of faith is the opposite - it is believing in that which you cannot prove to be true or that you cannot touch and believing any way.  So I think that the idea of Faith is very difficult for some people when their nature, personalities or "wiring" are as I described.  Yet, I think it is all the more wonderful when they grow and change throughout their lives and come to accept the beauty and in a big way, freedom, that is having Faith in Jesus and in God.

Why do some people need signs and wonders to believe in Jesus, and others do not?

Some people need signs & wonders because like St. Thomas they have to see to believe plus life is too sweet to let go of all material things to go & serve Jesus.

Others need nothing to help them believe in Jesus. Their religious upbringing is enough for them to serve God.

Why do some people need signs and wonders to believe in Jesus, and others do not?

It is a matter of faith that the Spirit has convicted the people with for the Spirit gives to each a measure of faith, but in some the faith is blocked by a hardened heart and the sign and wonders sometimes provides the catalyst needed to open the heart to the Word that they might come to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior, for others the heart is open to the Word and it is easier for them to receive the Word without the signs and wonders.

Why do some people need signs and wonders to believe in Jesus, and others do not?
Because people doubt that Jesus is the Christ until they see it with their own eyes. Instead of just believing what he says and doing the will of God. No matter because Jesus is our Lord, Healer, Redeemer and Savior who Loves Us. Jesus is Lord! Amen!

Jesus Heals the Official's Son

After the two days he went out from there and went into Galilee. For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country. So when he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast, for they also went to the feast. Jesus came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water into wine. There was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum. When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and begged him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death. Jesus therefore said to him, "Unless you see signs and wonders, you will in no way believe."
The nobleman said to him, "Sir, come down before my child dies." Jesus said to him, "Go your way. Your son lives." The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. As he was now going down, his servants met him and reported, saying "Your child lives!" So he inquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him." So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives." He believed, as did his whole house. This is again the second sign that Jesus did, having come out of Judea into Galilee.
