Why was Peter`s rebuke a stumbling block to Jesus?
Jesus was trying to tell His disciples what was going to happen to Him and Peter forgot his place as disciple - as a follower of Jesus, and took it upon himself to tell Jesus what He was saying didn`t have to be. His words were like a temptation to Jesus - that Jesus could change His destiny if He wanted to. Satan tried to tempt Jesus in the desert this very same way.

Why was Peter`s rebuke a stumbling block to Jesus?
Jesus came to this world with a mission and a vision to fulfill. Peter in a way not very clear of what Jesus came for thought the powers Jesus has to raise the dead, heal the sick, multiply bread and fish should be used in that great day to stop death. Peter`s rebuke is really an impediment since it is altering God`s set path of salvation of humanity.

Jesus Predicts His Death
Peter was just about like Satan. He tried to tell Jesus what to do. Jesus came here to serve a purpose and he knew what it was but man did not.

Jesus knew what was to come and any criticism by Peter was from the devil, a disbelief, questioning of the glory of God.

Jesus Predicts His Death

From that time, Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.
Peter took him aside, and began to rebuke him, saying, "Far be it from you, Lord! This will never be done to you."
But he turned, and said to Peter, "Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, for you are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of men." Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, and whoever will lose his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his life? Or what will a man give in exchange for his life? For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will render to everyone according to his deeds. Most certainly I tell you, there are some standing here who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom."
